If Democrats can’t pass the card-check bill that unions favor, the labor movement would be devastated and President-elect Obama and Democrats may lose the support of culturally conservative voters in the Midwest, writes Marc Ambinder. The Democratic Party, whose leaders are the self-appointed advocates of the common man and of enlightened meritocracy, could also be the party of legacy, writes Ambinder. A couple of high-profile dynasties — the Kennedys, the Clintons and the Udalls — are again asserting themselves, he notes.
