Minnesota election officials will decide on Friday the fate of 1,000 or more absentee ballots that supporters of Democrat Al Franken believe were wrongfully tossed out of the count in his race against Sen. Norm Coleman (R), writes Todd Beeton. The votes, if counted, could swing the race, Beeton adds. A new poll suggests that former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack (D) would be a tough opponent for Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) in 2010, notes Jonathan Singer. Grassley leads Vilsack 48 percent to 44 percent in the Research 2000 survey.
