John McCain lost Wednesday’s debate when he went from decrying the negative tone of the campaign one minute and then attacking Barack Obama using Rep. John Lewis’s (R-Ga.) remarks and his ties to William Ayers and ACORN the next minute, writes Nate Silver. Obama’s momentum is showing up as increased support in polls of states with lots of white, working-class voters, who tended to back Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) in the Democratic primaries, Silver writes.
