Despite John McCain’s previous support for broad immigration legislation that offered a path to citizenship to illegal immigrants, he has less than half of the support among Hispanic voters than Barack Obama does, a fact that explains the tight races in formerly red states Colorado and New Mexico, writes Jonathan Singer. McCain made another egregious mistake when he said he would fire the Securities and Exchange Commission chairman if he were president, even though the president doesn’t have the direct power to do so, writes Singer.
