Democrats are playing offense and blaming Republicans for policies that led to the crisis on Wall Street, according to the Post’s lead headline. Barack Obama said the mess is the “final verdict” on President Bush and John McCain’s economic positions, and Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) said that McCain’s economic philosophy is “bankrupt.” With the country facing its worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, economic inequality, climate change and wars abroad, citizens must insist that the candidates hold a substantive debate and avoid going down the path of more talk about “lipstick on a pig” and sex-ed for kindergartners, writes Robert Borosage.
