With a slew of surprising news about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R), The Huffington Post wonders, in a banner headline, what John McCain knew and didn’t know about his surprise running mate pick. In links, the Post notes the pregnancy of Palin’s teenage daughter, the attempt to recall Palin as mayor of a small town, a report that she was a member of Alaska’s Secessionist Party, her role as a fundraiser for indicted Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), and her remark that Iraq was a war “for oil.” But Palin was still a better pick for McCain than more experienced Republicans, since they would have highlighted the party’s failures over the past eight years, writes Arianna Huffington.
