The Democrats at their convention have yet to do what they need to do, which is go on the attack to force John McCain on the defensive, writes Josh Marshall. With a “Swift-Boat” style outside group spending $3 million on an attack ad trying to tie Barack Obama to Weather Underground bomber William Ayers, Marshall writes that McCain has now endorsed “Swift-boating” after having pledged to prevent it this year.
