John McCain could continue to build on his momentum from the past month by choosing as a running mate former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), who could help in Colorado and Michigan, or Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R), who is “acceptable to everyone,” writes Hugh Hewitt. Though Barack Obama has touted the new Democratic platform language about “reducing the number of abortions,” the actual phrase calls for “reducing the need for abortions,” which is language that pro-life advocates find flimsy, writes Carol Platt Liebau.
