Nine Republican senators running for re-election won’t attend the GOP convention or have yet to decide whether to go, meaning that John McCain may not have many colleagues to share the stage with other than Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), whose state is playing host, writes Todd Beeton. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) called himself a pure budget hawk who once voted against Iraq war funding, but he has supported war-spending bills more often than not, notes Josh Orton.
