Polls show that Barack Obama doesn’t need to win a single toss-up state to win the election, according to Thomas B. Edsall’s report that headlines the Post. But though many political scientists believe Obama is far ahead, one observer suggest the race is still either candidate’s to win because of John McCain’s record of accomplishments and because his name isn’t George W. Bush, Edsall notes. With Bush about to sign a huge housing bill that will increase oversight of mortgage companies, it’s clear that the status quo of deregulated market “fundamentalism” is about to change, writes Jared Bernstein.
