TalkingPointsMemo
When pundits talk about the need for Barack Obama to prove he can become commander-in-chief, they forget that the Constitution’s framers sought to give the position to a president who was a civilian elected by the people and not a quasi-military figure, writes Josh Marshall. It’s shouldn’t be a concern to Democrats that Obama’s poll numbers haven’t increased in the wake of his trip abroad, since the political point of the trip was to have an audition for the role of president that Obama could refer back to in the tough final weeks of the election, Marshall writes.
