The White House sounds like it’s going through the five stages of grief over Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s statement in support of a U.S. troop withdrawal timeline, with White House Press Secretary Dana Perino on Monday trying to dismiss Maliki’s statement, writes Josh Marshall. But in addition to Maliki’s statement in Der Spiegel being correct, Maliki’s office had signed off on the quote before it was published, Marshall notes.
