John McCain will win the presidency if he wins Michigan, a state with 17 electoral votes, or ends up matching Barack Obama in the traditionally Democratic state, writes Soren Dayton, who notes that a new poll has the two candidates virtually tied. McCain should wait until the Tuesday of the Republican convention to announce his running mate, since that will gin up interest at the convention and give him a bigger bounce than if he announced his pick this week, writes Patrick Ruffini.
