The White House’s explanation for Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s remark in support of Barack Obama’s withdrawal plan — that Maliki was bowing to Iraq public opinion — shows that the days of the U.S. military presence are numbered, writes Josh Marshall. Al Gore’s plan for an end within 10 years to electricity that produces carbon emissions is “ingenious” because it goes directly after the electricity grid instead of lesser problem of automobiles, sidesteps many legislative and regulatory issues, and opens up the possibilities for new ways of financing the reforms, according to Reed Hundt.
