Reports that John McCain was not able to reach the rank of admiral while still in the Navy are false, according to Pejman Yousefzadeh, who looks at McCain’s own book and points out that the former prisoner-of-war had received a promotion to captain that only temporarily precluded another promotion. Barack Obama, who recently admitted to making “overheated and amplified” statements against free trade during the Democratic primaries, had his campaign use that type of rhetoric in slamming McCain’s trip to Colombia, which has a pending free trade agreement with the United States, notes Yousefzadeh.
