Though Glenn Greenwald thinks that the 2006 elections showed Democrats no longer have to worry about appearing soft on terrorism, the race he uses as evidence, featuring former Rep. Nancy Johnson’s (R-Conn.), didn’t turn on terrorism issues, according to Sean Oxendine. Dino Rossi in Washington state has the best chance of any Republican challenger to win a gubernatorial race, since Gov. Christine Gregoire (D) is on the defensive about her record, while Rossi is the change agent and the target of ethnic slurs about his Italian-American heritage, writes Eric Earling.
