Back in 1992, Bill Clinton, much like Barack Obama now, talked about changing the old politics, but he eventually went along with the system thanks in part to the Washington veterans around him, reminds Michael Crowley, who sees Clinton’s shift as a cautionary tale for Obama. Though new Quinnipiac polls show Obama leading John McCain by double digits in Wisconsin and Minnesota, McCain shouldn’t neglect those states because it would allow Obama to spend more resources competing in states such as Virginia, writes Noam Scheiber.
