Sen. John Ensign’s (R-Nev.) remarks blaming a lack of Republican campaign contributions on “bad” donor mailing lists speaks volumes about what’s wrong with the right, according to Matthew Sheffield. Instead of focusing on technology and strategy, Republicans should instead make a return to Ronald Reagan-style conservatism, Sheffield writes. If conservatives want to improve their strategy, they should consider reshaping institutions to resemble the Center for American Progress, the liberal think tank, writes Soren Dayton. While the Heritage Foundation is able to do similar research for conservatives that the liberal group does for the left, Heritage isn’t as focused on turning that research into political messages that lawmakers can campaign on, Dayton writes.
