Barack Obama’s economic team is much more Wall Street than Main Street, as evidenced by the inclusion of Jason Furman, a deputy of former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin, laments Dean Baker in TPMCafe. Instead of listening to declarations that Social Security is in “crisis” and that critics of free trade are “neanderthals,” Obama should look to a liberal economist who will help shift the debate, Baker suggests. Obama, however, has already done a better job unifying the party, as 68 percent of Democrats are satisfied with him as their candidate, far more than the 52 percent of Republicans who like John McCain, writes Eric Kleefeld.
