The Corner
Rep. Dan Boren’s (D-Okla.) decision to not endorse Barack Obama puts other Blue Dog Democrats on the hot seat and gives John McCain a “pretty devastating talking point,” writes Mark Hemingway. Boren explains his decision by saying that Obama’s record “does not reflect working in a bipartisan fashion.” Perhaps just as devastating as the talking point is the fact that Boren’s move will prevent Obama from running with the congressman’s father, former Sen. David Boren (D-Okla.), who would have made an intriguing running mate, a reader e-mails Hemingway. John McCain may have ticked off fiscal conservatives by calling for more government oversight of corporate executives’ salaries, suggests Ramesh Ponnuru. McCain might have gone too far by saying that he would use federal prosecutors to look into executives’ salaries and require shareholders to approve them, writes Ponnuru.
