The substance of John McCain’s speech was good, but the style was bad, writes Yuval Levin. McCain is right to call for reform of Washington, but formal speeches that call for “sustained precision of pitch and volume” don’t work when McCain gives them, Levin writes. Barack Obama’s speech was well delivered, but his description of a coming “journey” that will result in better healthcare and jobs was an “enormous gust of gassy nonsense,” writes Jonah Goldberg.
