TalkingPointsMemo
John McCain’s speech focused on why he doesn’t represent a third term of George W. Bush was “defensive in character,” awkward” and “just fel[t] old,” writes Josh Marshall. On top of that, McCain again showed that he’s “simply awful” at giving formal speeches and should instead focus on his strength – extemporaneous remarks, according to Marshall. But while McCain is trying to distance himself from the president, he recently made clear that he supports the White House policies on warrantless wiretapping and expanded executive power during wartime, Marshall adds.
