Barack Obama knew that the New Party was “a radical left organization” when he sought its endorsement for his state senate run in 1996, according to Erick Erickson. The party had fought for stronger labor rights and was co-founded by a supporter of Jesse Jackson’s 1988 presidential campaign, Erickson writes. John McCain should pledge to serve just one term, appealing to conservatives as right president to oversee the war and positioning himself to draw votes from Hillary Clinton backers looking ahead to 2012, writes Ben Domenech.
