The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is right to start a $10 million campaign aimed at holding members of Congress accountable over their promises to work for universal health care and other union priorities, according to Jonathan Singer. SEIU plans to officially launch its campaign in 2009. But the union has already held one Democratic congressman, former Rep. Al Wynn (Md.), accountable by spending $1 million to support his union-friendly primary opponent, Donna Edwards (D), who beat Wynn in February, Singer notes.
