The Washington Post has contributed to the “ugliness” of the campaign by running an op-ed by Jamie Rubin, which questions whether John McCain once supported talks with Hamas, Scott Johnson writes. As the McCain campaign has noted, McCain said in 2006 that any U.S. relationship with Hamas was contingent on the type of government the group formed, several conservative bloggers have pointed out. Obama’s suggestion to David Brooks that Hamas and Hezbollah have “legitimate claims,” albeit ones that are weakened by the violence they cause, shows that Obama is a believer of the “realist” school that’s too willing to blame Israel, writes John Hinderaker.
