Power Line
Barack Obama is now the favorite to win the presidency, writes Paul Mirengoff. He looks at the “fundamentals” that can often predict a race — voters’ feelings about the economy, the war, the current president and his party — and sees that they all point to Obama and the Democrats. But Mirengoff hedges his bet, noting that John McCain has shown himself to be a candidate “better than average” in terms of electability who has appealed to independent voters while Obama lacks experience and is “an extremist as presidential nominees go.” Mirengoff also praises McCain in another post for his speech calling out Obama for opposing John Roberts’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. McCain has consistently voted for conservative judges, something that show allay concerns of conservative voters, Mirengoff writes.
