The New Republic’s bloggers look at two newspaper stories over the weekend about how the presidential candidates’ would govern if they got into office. Jonathan Cohn takes issue with the New York Times’ look at the three candidates’ spending proposals. Cohn argues that the story doesn’t emphasize enough the potential for John McCain’s plans to increase the national debt by $5.7 trillion. Dayo Olopade agrees with a Washington Post column that finds little connection between how the presidential campaign tests candidates and what a president actually needs to govern.
