Matthew Yglesias
Yglesias looks at two issues sure to come up in the general election — the economy and Pakistan. Yglesias posts the Democratic National Committee’s new ad that suggests John McCain is too optimistic toward the economy. Yglesias, however, would have liked to see some advertising putting greater scrutiny on McCain’s strengths, including as national security. Yglesias also links to a New York Times report on U.S. military commanders’ desire to conduct more strikes against problematic tribal leaders in Pakistan. The blogger suggests that the story illustrates how President Bush and McCain can be wrong if they “blindly” follow the advice of their military leaders.
