After Wednesday’s debate, there’s a bit of glee over at the National Review’s blog. Mark Hemingway proclaims John McCain the big winner, agreeing with a reader who was unimpressed with Barack Obama but pleased with moderator Charlie Gibson, whom the reader called “downright conservative.” Hemingway now foresees a Hillary Clinton victory in Pennsylvania that will prolong the race and help McCain. Jonah Goldberg gets it right when he writes that leftwing bloggers must be furious with the debate, since much of it was “a lot of box-checking on how the candidates will respond to various Republican talking points. Hemingway, however, has nothing but praise for the moderators, who asked Obama about William Ayers and talked about the revenue boost from a capital gains tax cut.
