Optimism about the Democrats’ chances to take a couple of congressional seats in traditionally Republican areas is the main topic here. brownsox notes that Democrat Mark Begich is leading six-term Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) by one point in a new poll, thanks to a 22-point lead among independent voters. The Kossack also has high hopes for Democrat Joe Garcia in his race against Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R) in South Florida, noting that Diaz-Balart is trying to turn Garcia’s effort to cultivate the favor of House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) into a negative.
