John Mirengoff, giving a conservative perspective on Mark Penn’s demotion, writes that it’s sad to see Hillary Clinton turn away from free trade. Mirengoff finds it “deeply ironic” that Clinton and Barack Obama talk about restoring America’s standing while also “impairing our relations with allies” with their free trade rhetoric. Mirengoff suggests that the economy can be a winning issue for John McCain, noting a poll that shows a plurality of Americans supporting the idea that government should get out of the way by reducing taxes and regulations.
