David Kurtz goes after the Bush administration on Iraq and torture. Kurtz finds President Bush distancing himself from the Iraqi government’s operation in the Battle of Basra, something he had called “a defining moment.” Kurtz also writes up the long-awaited release of a 2003 Justice Department memo that laid the groundwork for U.S.-sanctioned torture, saying that it “shocks the conscience.” Also, Kurtz notes Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is on board with the proposed July 1 deadline for superdelegates to make their preferences known.
