DAY’S END ROUNDUP

Barack Obama has done well to challenge John McCain to “say it to my face” when making attacks about his character, liberals declare, while conservatives say McCain supporters are angry and frustrated with Democrats, after a McCain supporter told the Arizona senator so at a Wisconsin rally.

Daily Kos’s kos accuses McCain of being a coward after watching Obama say he’s surprised McCain didn’t repeat recent attacks in person at Tuesday night’s debate. Obama told ABC’s Charles Gibson he’s surprised that McCain didn’t “say it to my face” Tuesday–presumably referencing recent attacks from the McCain camp over Obama’s association with former Weather Underground member William Ayers–and TalkLeft’s Big Tent Democrat thinks it’s a good strategic move. Either McCain will back off the attacks, or be goaded into losing his cool and making more extreme attacks, the blogger supposes.

A Wisconsin McCain supporter revealed how many like him are feeling across the country, The Corner’s Jonah Goldberg says, when he told McCain today he is “really mad” about the “socialists takin’ over our country.” Goldberg says his readers agree, and are similarly angry at Democrats like Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). But McCain may not be entirely comfortable with his supporters’ mood of late, Hot Air’s Allahpundit suggests after watching a video of the exchange, proposing McCain wasn’t thrilled with the tone of the Wisconsin raly.

And Georgia is looking like trouble for the GOP this fall, The Weekly Standard’s Kevin Vance laments after reading polls that show Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) in a tight re-election race with challenger Jim Martin. Martin may be riding recent bad economic news to success in polls, Vance suggests after Research2000 and Survey USA reported him within one and two percentage points of Chambliss, respectively–a huge reversal from polls taken several weeks ago.
