DAY’S END ROUNDUP
Post-game debate spin is still alive and well in the blogosphere with Obama backers attacking ABC, Bill Clinton telling Erie, Pa. that Hillary “was great” and conservatives just happy to watch.
Daily Kos blogger Hunter called the debate “historic,” but not in a good way. The debate was “so deeply embarrassing to the nation that it will be pointed to, in future books and documentary works, as a prime example of the collapse of the American media,” the blogger writes.
Some bloggers attacking ABC are being hit back as “Obamaniacs” or naive about the rough nature of politics. But Andrew Sullivan writes that Obama supporters are so upset about the debate not because it was hard on their candidate, but because Obama supporters believe the problems facing America are “deep” ones that are put on the back burner by the nature of politics. Sullivan writes that Obama got hit so hard last night because “the political establishment and the ideological right and cynical left know how big a threat he is to them.”
Dan McLaughlin at RedState hands out awards from the “Thrilla in Phila.” Obama got the “chutzpah” award for saying, “you take one person’s statement, if it’s not properly phrased, and you just beat it to death. And that’s what Senator Clinton’s been doing over the last four days,” despite, as the blogger points out, doing the same thing on John McCain’s “100 years” comment.
Stepping back from the debate, Karl Rove was asked to come testify to Congress today. One liberal blogger at Think Progress has dug up video of Rove’s attorney saying Rove would testify and wants to know if the former adviser to President Bush is going to keep his promise.
