DAY’S END ROUNDUP
Just as Capitol Hill was buzzing over the second day of testimony from Gen. David Petraeus, so was the blogging community. Iraq was the hot topic, with the Summer Olympics and more VP speculation not far behind
Conservative blogger haystack at RedState was not happy with press coverage of the Petraeus hearings. “This is about Iraq. It’s about Afghanistan. It’s about the Middle East,” haystack writes. “It should NOT be about who the next President is.”
Firedoglake blogger Blue Texan points to a line in the General’s testimony refuting claims by top Republicans. Petreaus said yesterday, “we are haven’t turned any corners. We haven’t seen any lights at the end of the tunnel.” Blue Texan says the statement “kills” that turning-a-corner talking point, holding up statements by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C) and Vice President Dick Cheney using the point.
The international political drama that follows the Olympic torch made its way to the blogs as the torch was in San Francisco today. Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter (R) made waves with an article calling on President Bush to boycott the opening ceremony. The money quote in the piece “Republicans coddle communist China” got the Michigan Republican a prime spot on Drudge that reverberated in the blogosphere.
