Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) $40 million March fundraising total was a common topic on blogs this afternoon, as Obama and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) received far more attention than Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.). Bloggers also found time to discuss John Yoo’s 2003 interrogation memo and former Rep. Bob Barr’s (R-Ga.) Libertarian presidential candidacy.

Obama’s fundraising total drew attention from across the ideological spectrum. The Huffington Post’s Christina Bellantoni notes that Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said today the campaign will “have the resources to compete” with Obama. The campaign’s reluctance to release their own numbers, Bellantoni says, indicates an unimpressive showing. Townhall.com’s Amanda Carpenter points out Wolfson’s claim that both Clinton and Obama are outraising McCain, who has yet to release his own March total.

Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey and Townhall.com’s Matt Lewis picked up on McCain’s choice not to use Secret Service protection on the campaign trail (The Hill’s Mike Soraghan has the story). Lewis says voters like McCain’s accessibility, and Morrissey says McCain should ensure his own survival if he is to fight terrorism as vigorously as promised once elected.

In other campaign news, Barr is reportedly considering a Libertarian presidential bid, and The Corner’s Kathryn Jean Lopez calls him the new Ron Paul. MyDD’s Todd Beeton says the presidential race is about to get weirder.

The 2003 memo from former Bush adviser Yoo supporting harsh interrogation techniques was still a hot topic for liberal bloggers. Consensus is that Yoo’s memo advanced an idea of limitless power for the Bush administration. Firedoglake’s Christy Hardin Smith says Yoo’s arguments amount to “might equals right,” and Reason’s Jacob Sullum says that, until now, no one thought the Bush administration would dare hold itself above the 4th Amendment.
