Crist to announce gubernatorial run Nov. 4

Charlie Crist will officially announce his run for governor of Florida Nov. 4, the Tampa Bay Times reports. 

The former governor told the newspaper Friday he will declare the start of his campaign that Monday morning in his hometown, St. Petersburg.

At the state’s Democratic Party convention Friday at Disney World, however, he suggested he wasn’t 100 percent-decided. 

“I somewhat know what I’m going to do, but until you say it publicly it’s not done,” Crist said, according to the Times.

Earlier that day Crist launched a new video ad and website that suggested another gubernatorial run, but didn’t announce one just yet.

Crist became a Democrat after leaving the Republican Party when it became clear he’d lose a senate primary battle to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in 2010.

From 2007 to 2011, Crist served as governor of Florida. If he does, in fact, run again, he’s expected to defeat Republican incumbent Gov. Rick Scott. 

In a video posted on YouTube, Crist cited Democratic themes in aligning himself with workers and mentioning attacks on healthcare. 

“You’ve seen the attacks against full-time working people and their healthcare, against women and their doctors, against teachers, public schools, and college affordability, and even against the simple act of casting your vote,” he said. “It’s not working.”

Crist also launched a new website: CharlieCrist.com. “Only you, the people, can get Florida back to common sense,” the main page says. Below that is an area for constituents to submit comments. 

Since leaving office, Crist hasn’t left the public eye. In 2012, he spoke at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Just this week, the widow of the late Rep. C.W. Bill Young (Fla.), who died last week, banned Crist from attending her husband’s funeral.
