Donald Trump on Monday invoked New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady to suggest himself as the best Republican presidential candidate on the international stage.
“We need very strong people, because our country is being taken away like candy from a baby,” Trump said in an interview on Fox Sports 1’s “The Herd” with host Colin Cowherd.
{mosads}”We need strong people. We need the Tom Brady of negotiators,” Trump continued on the program, mentioning trade deals and the recently negotiated deal over Iran’s nuclear program.
The celebrity real estate tycoon has long cast himself as a tough negotiator, suggesting his business skills could translate well into White House responsibilities.
Meanwhile, Trump suggested Monday that GOP presidential rival Jeb Bush is “under a tremendous amount of pressure” in his 2016 White House bid, while Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is a “lightweight.”
The businessman has repeatedly voiced his admiration for Brady, a four-time Super Bowl champion who was photographed with one of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” caps in his locker.
