New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says he has no doubts that GOP presidential rival Ben Carson is an “honest man,” but says presidential candidates have to be able to back up their personal stories.
“We’re all responsible for our personal story, right?” Christie said in an interview with radio host Michael Medved about the media scrutiny plaguing Carson following his claims that he was offered a “full scholarship” to West Point.
{mosads}“We put our personal story out there. We tell folks our history, that’s part of our candidacy,” Christie said, according to BuzzFeed News. “We have to be able to back that up.”
Christie said he is “sure” Carson will answer the allegations, calling him a “good, decent, and honest man.”
“And if he answers them to the satisfaction of the American people — not the media, the American people — if he does that, he’ll be fine,” Christie added.
