CNN reporter calls Comey’s father, gets Comey instead

A CNN reporter called James Comey’s father Saturday — and got the fired FBI director instead.

The reporter, MJ Lee, had called J. Brien Comey Saturday morning, asking for an interview, but the elder Comey said he was expecting “company” and couldn’t speak for a few hours, according to CNN.

But when the reporter called again, a different man picked up.

“His company is his son, Jim,” James Comey told Lee, confirming that he was the former FBI director.

Comey told the reporter that he was about to leave but that his father wouldn’t be speaking to the press.

The reporter then asked Comey for his reaction to the week, including his testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“You can ask, but I’m not going to talk about that,” Comey said, before wishing CNN luck.

Comey has not spoken to the press since President Trump abruptly fired him last month.

During his testimony Thursday, he confirmed that Trump had asked him to drop the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, that Trump had asked him for his loyalty and said that Trump had lied about his firing and the state of the FBI.
