Obama and Cameron wager ‘best’ beers on World Cup showdown
President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron bet beers on the showdown World Cup match Saturday between the United States and Britain.
In a call between the two leaders on Saturday morning, Obama wagered “the best beer in America” against the best lager on an American win. The two “agreed to disagree” on the best team. The United States holds a 1-0 lead on Britain in World Cup matches, after the 1950 underdog team beat Britain in a match known now as the “Miracle on Grass.”
“The president wagered the best lager against the best beer in America on an American win over England,” according a White House readout of the call. The White House was mum on the what is the best American beer, however.
“The president noted that the historical record of previous World Cup matches between the United States and England favors the United States,” according to the readout.
