Sen. Tim Johnson hospitalized with fever

Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.) was hospitalized over the weekend with a fever, his office said Monday.

Johnson was admitted to a Sioux Falls hospital on Sunday for a fever possibly due to an adverse reaction to an antibiotic, and is in stable condition.

“Trust me, I would rather be in Pierre today,” Johnson said in a statement. “I’m glad to be back home in South Dakota and on the mend soon.”

The senator’s hospitalization was unrelated to the arteriovenous malformation (AVM) from which Johnson has previously suffered, his doctor said. Johnson had suffered bleeding in the brain in late 2006 due to complications from that condition, an event that required months of rehabilitation.

Johnson’s doctor said his team was working on pinpointing the cause of the fever, but said they suspected it was probably a reaction to a drug.
