Top Republicans look to cast their party as solutions-oriented
Republican lawmakers pushed a new video on Tuesday to help cast themselves to voters as a solution-oriented party.
The House Republican Conference released a message featuring top GOP lawmakers pitching ideas in an upbeat way, as Democrats hammer at them for being an alleged “party of ‘no.'”
{mosads}The video features the ranking members of eight House committees, along with some lower-ranking but prominent members, looking to put a positive spin on Republicans’ work in Congress as November’s elections rapidly approach.
“House Republican have been committed to providing solutions to the challenges that face our nation,” the video says. “And every day, House Republicans are continuing that commitment to you.”
The video is part of a sustained effort by the House GOP to cast themselves as solution-oriented as President Obama and congressional Democrats continually charge Republicans with being “obstructionists.”
But Republicans have made a concerted effort to fight back against that line of argument. They’ve heavily promoted the “YouCut” program pushed by House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and the “America Speaking Out” listening program headed up by Chief Deputy Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
Democrats, for their part, have ridiculed those programs as being publicity stunts in essence and have voted down the proposals to come out of those GOP-led programs.
House Republicans, who promoted the new conference video Tuesday on Twitter, will also look to underscore their own line of argument this fall when they likely will lay out an election year platform detailing what a return to Republican control of the House would mean in terms of legislative action.
