Miller credits Palin, Huckabee role in primary surprise
Alaska Tea Party favorite Joe Miller on Sunday thanked Sarah Palin and
former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) for putting him on the verge of
a major upset victory in the state’s Republican Senate primary.
Miller
is leading Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the Senate primary by less than 2,000
votes with absentee ballots still being counted. If his lead holds,
Miller’s victory would be one of the biggest upsets of this year’s
election cycle. Murkowski has said it is too early to call the election.
On CBS on Sunday, Miller credited Huckabee and Palin, the 2008
Republican vice presidential candidate and state’s popular former
governor, alongside a network of volunteers.
“This is a very small state population-wise. Elections here are determined by the strength of your volunteer network,” he said.
Miller campaigned hard against the size of the federal government
and for more power to be given to states. He also called for major
changes to Medicare and Social Security.
“We have to look at all the options, including privatization,” he said, referring to Social Security.
