DNC hits Boehner’s ‘government jobs’ claim new in ad

A Democratic National Committee TV ad launching Tuesday accuses House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) of opposing funding for teachers, police and firefighters while backing tax breaks for multinational companies that send jobs overseas.

The 30-second spot – which will run for several days in national cable markets – highlights growing Democratic political attacks on Boehner ahead of mid-term elections that could make him House Speaker if Republicans re-take the chamber.

The ad attacks Boehner over his criticism of federal funding to “protect government jobs” in an August speech, a reference to legislation Congress approved that month that steered $26 billion to states for Medicaid and education assistance.

“John Boehner opposes funding for government jobs . . . jobs for teachers, for cops, for firefighters,” the DNC ad states. “Boehner has a different plan: Tax cuts for businesses and those that shift jobs and profits overseas. Saving multinational corporations ten billion.”

“So to China and India and Mexico, Boehner has a message: You’re welcome,” it adds.

Boehner, in his speech, attacked a provision in the bill that would raise taxes on U.S.-based multinational companies by an estimated $10 billion over a decade by limiting foreign tax credits.

“The bill is funded by a new tax hike that makes it more expensive to create jobs in the United States and less expensive to create jobs overseas,” Boehner said in his August 24 speech.

Democrats said they were closing a loophole that companies had been exploiting.
