Rove: Murkowski’s write-in campaign is ‘sad and sorry’

Republican strategist Karl Rove said on “Fox News Sunday”
that Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) is going to lose her Senate bid and that her decision to
wage a write-in candidacy is “sad and sorry.”

“Absolutely no
she can’t win,” Rove said. “Under the law, you have to carefully spell
the name exactly correct, now everyone go to your pencil and paper and
write the name ‘Murkowski’ and see if you got it right.

“No, she’s going
to lose,” he said.

“Now, the bigger, more important question is is she going to keep a
Republican from winning,” with her write-in bid, he said. “Who would have thought that one of the most
conservative states in the country ran the risk of having two liberal
Democrats who follow the Obama line representing it in the United
States Senate? And that’s what she could do as a spoilsport.”

Rove also pressed former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to go and campaign for “her favorite
Christine O’Donnell,” the Tea Party candidate who had a stunning win in
the Delaware Republican primary. O’Donnell canceled her appearances on
“Fox News Sunday” and “Face the Nation” on account that she was exhausted
and wanted to focus on her state campaign.

Rove and O’Donnell have traded barbs recently. Rove has strongly opposed O’Donnell and said that she is not electable, and needs to explain controversies from her past.

Because
Palin boosted O’Donnell’s campaign, Rove urged Palin on Sunday to go
campaign in Delaware and bring O’Donnell “to the finish line,” if she
wanted to “demonstrate her political power.”
