American Crossroads raises $15M from September through mid-October
An arm of one of the GOP-aligned groups under siege from attacks by President Obama and Democrats will report having raised $15 million between Sept. 1 and Oct. 13.
American Crossroads, the 527 organization affiliated with former George W. Bush administration officials Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie, will report having raised approximately $7 million in September and $8 million between Oct. 1-13 in Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings Wednesday evening.
The group, which is one of several outside organizations spending in favor of Republicans and against Democrats this campaign cycle, will have raised over $24 million since its inception, according to its filings.
The new figures reflect an increased intensity in the 527’s fundraising, especially as President Obama led Democrats in launching attacks against American Crossroads, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other GOP-aligned organizations.
The American Crossroads filing only covers the activities of its 527 arm. A separate entity, Crossroads GPS, is not required to disclose the size and origin of its donations.
It’s against those blind donations that Obama and most Democrats have railed, arguing that federal law should compel such groups to disclose their corporate or individual benefactors. Without those rules, Democrats charge, groups like the Chamber or Crossroads GPS could be accepting foreign money for their political efforts.
Both organizations have vehemently denied such charges.
