After voting, Boehner eyes Speaker post
“This is going to be a big day,” Boehner (R-Ohio) said outside his polling place in West Chester, Ohio. “I think we have a real opportunity to win the majority, and hopefully my colleagues will elect me Speaker.”
{mosads}Boehner’s comments are a sign of Republicans’ confidence heading into Election Day, when they are expected to win 50 or more seats and take the House majority away from Democrats.
The Republican National Committee (RNC) also issued a memo on Tuesday that called Election Day “A Remarkable Moment in American Political History.”
The document touted strong signs for the GOP in voter enthusiasm, early voting and volunteer activity.
“Just two short years ago, pundits wrote about the realigning Obama victory,” wrote RNC Political Director Gentry Collins. “They wrote about a ‘doomed’ Republican Party. They wrote about an outclassed ground game, and a generational shift akin to the FDR triumph of last century. How things can change today.”
Boehner is expected to become Speaker should the GOP win the House majority. Only a small handful of Republican
candidates and lawmakers have said they might not support Boehner.
