Man charged for incident at Obama checkpoint in Hawaii

A man accused of leading police on a car chase to the Hawaii street where President Obama and his family are vacationing was charged Friday with multiple criminal counts.

Leon Rodrigues, 39, was charged with two counts of resisting an order to stop and reckless driving, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. He was being held by police on $6,350 bail and charged with five contempt-of-court charges.

Police on Thursday had been looking for Rodrigues to serve him with five outstanding warrants, but he drove away in a silver Nissan Titan pickup truck, the Star-Advertiser reported. Officers pursued Rodrigues when he turned onto Kailuana Place, where the first family’s rented vacation home is located.

Secret Service agents had established a security checkpoint on the street, through which Rodrigues sped. The 39-year-old man was later arrested.
