Boehner to Obama: Game on

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Sunday he’s also willing to hit the golf course with President Obama.

Amidst signs from Obama that he would be open to taking in 18 holes with the GOP Speaker, Boehner said he’d be game.

“Of course,” Boehner said on “Fox News Sunday” when asked if he’d play with Obama if given a chance.

He said he’d likely have to allow Obama a handicap, though: “I’m sure I’ll have to give him strokes.”

Outgoing White House senior adviser David Axelrod said in an interview over the weekend that Obama, who’s picked up golf as a hobby since coming to the White House, would be willing to play with Boehner.

Boehner’s known as an avid golfer, and observers have wondered whether some time on the golf course would allow the two to foster a good relationship. Neither are regarded as especially close on a personal level, and Boehner’s noted that Obama hadn’t reached out to him much since the Ohio Republican became Speaker. Boehner said Sunday he suspected Obama had just been too busy so far.
